Quite obviously we are creatures of weak memory. Even after two world wars, most of us are still unable to discern through obvious propaganda. With the correct scenery and music, words like "collateral damage" or "accident", still convince people that a bombing against innocents is not terrorism and that in order to be a terrorist you must be muslim.
Just as radio stations of Germany and Britain were propagading their respective national cause in the 2nd world war, CNN has taken the role of propagading USA.
During the period of the bombings against Serbia, CNN had been broadcasting NATO public briefings every day. In these briefings, NATO officials free of any journalistic ideals had all freedom to make their own story. At the same time, when the Stealth Fighter was shot down, CNN did not cover the incident for more than 2 minutes; they immediately put a NATO tape on the excellent organization of the rescue that would follow.
No serious news network broadcasts briefings of a military organization in every day basis. This is what happens in Banana Democracies, but it must not be allowed to happen in USA.
I wrote the following commentary as a response to CNN's "coverage" of the horrifying incident were 14 Serbs had been killed by Albanians in Kossovo. It is a typical article of NATO's propaganda and it will serve well in pointing, in bright colors, how CNN fabricates the story. The article was posted in CNN.COM at July 25, 1999, 3:56 a.m. EDT (0756 GMT).
No arrests in Kosovo massacre; KLA to cooperate in probe
Truth: There is no evidence of KLA protecting Serbs anywhere. Sure, KLA would declare they would "cooperate" in probe but this is not news. At best, KLA is protecting the Albanian interests only and it has given solid evidence of terrorist activity by killing Serb civilians
GRACKO, Kosovo (CNN) -- No suspects have been identified so far in the massacre of 14 Serbs harvesting wheat in a Kosovo field, officials said. The killings threatened to set back international peacekeeping efforts to end Kosovo's cycle of endless violence.
Truth: CNN has a twisted view either on the word peace or the word keep. You can't keep peace in a place where there is no peace. At best, international forces are "peace enforcers". At worst (bearing in mind the bombing of China's embassy and other civilian sites) they are terrorists
A Serb woman spits in the direction of journalists as she leaves the city morgue in Pristina, Kosovo, after identifying bodies of some of the 14 Serb men shot dead
Truth: Serbs have to be the "bad guys" even at the time of their mourning!
Villagers blamed ethnic Albanians for the attack, the worst since NATO peacekeepers entered Kosovo six weeks ago. Peacekeepers have been hard-pressed to curb daily killings, abductions and harassment of Serbs across the province by ethnic Albanians avenging widespread atrocities committed earlier by Serb forces. NATO and U.N. officials condemned the violence and appealed for calm
Truth: Indeed, by preventing Serb forces from protecting Serbs! It makes sense after all: if all Serbs leave Kosovo, violence would cease.
The leader of the ethnic Albanians' Kosovo Liberation Army repudiated the attack and said he would cooperate in the investigation.
Truth: KLA does not have a leader. It is not an organized force.
(Family members of the victims leave the city hospital morgue in Pristina)
Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic blamed the massacre on NATO and the United Nations and demanded the return of some Yugoslav soldiers and Serbian police to Kosovo. Milosevic accused NATO of "foot-dragging on the required disarmament of terrorist gangs."
The victims were found Friday evening by a British NATO patrol after automatic weapons fire was heard in a field near this town 10 miles south of Pristina, the capital. Thirteen were lying in a circle next to their combine harvester; another man was slumped over his tractor 150 yards away, said Maj. Ian Seraph, the British contingent spokesman.
Truth: although none of the above is untrue, it is very interesting to see why all this information is mixed. Indeed, CNN provides the information about the dead bodies just after a reference to the much hated figure of Slobodan Milosevic. What CNN comments as "victims were found" is really another way of saying "NATO patrol came after the killing" (why should NATO men risk their lives after all?).
Villagers blamed the KLA, and said the killing field was close to an ethnic Albanian village, Bujance, a KLA stronghold. The residents accused peacekeepers of failing to heed their pleas for protection in the fields when the harvest began seven days ago.
An ethnic Albanian woman cries over death of her cousin, whose body was found by forensic experts in a field near Prizren, as they were searching for the remains of over 100 missing villagers.
Truth: this is an even worse case of misinformative structure. The very serious accusation of the villagers against NATO is followed after a picture of a crying woman that has nothing to do with the title. CNN does not hide the truth; this has proven to be ineffective. They just take care that the truth is painted with the necessary colors!
"It's a hard truth," said British Lt. Gen. Mike Jackson, head of peacekeeping forces. "I regret these deaths bitterly, but ... we can't be everywhere all the time."
Truth: quite obviously, we have a cold blooded testimony here. NATO regrets these particular deaths "bitterly" but they won't prevent them neither will they allow Serbs to arm themselves against Albanians. I must admit here, CNN has done quite spectacularly!
He called the killings a "cowardly act of brutal and cold murder," adding that they "only reinforce my determination and that of my soldiers to bring security to all people of Kosovo." Bernard Kouchner, the chief U.N. administrator for the province, said the attack was particularly damaging because "we have been making real progress, significant steps toward stability and democracy. ... The world did not intervene to make Kosovo safe for revenge and intolerance."
Truth: but NATO did. Kossovo has now become a place for freely terrorizing unarmed Serb civilians.
But he also said he was mindful of the recent suffering of the whole population. Some 10,000 ethnic Albanians died in Serb attacks, most during the 78-day NATO bombing campaign to dislodge Serb forces from the mainly ethnic Albanian province.
Truth: numbers. nothing makes greater impression than a well rounded number. I might ask only, where does this number come from? Why not 100,000 then? And why not 1,000? And how many of them have been killed by NATO's antipersonnel bombs?
News of the massacre rippled through the Serb community and raised fears of a renewed Serb flight. More than 100,000 are believed to have left the province after NATO entered, and fewer than 50,000 remain, U.N. refugee officials say. More Serb departures would frustrate U.N. and NATO policy to lure Serbs back and kept Kosovo ethnically diverse.
Truth: NATO is trying to dismantle the ethnically diverse Yugoslavia into small "ethnically-clean" territories. For sure, this tactic will fail. The Balcan history is full of wars and internal strifes between those ethnic groups. What's going to happen when NATO won't be able to police Kossovo?
After the gruesome find, "there is little hope we will stay," Milosavljevic said. "This is a big tragedy not only for this village, but for all other Serb villages."The victims included a 15-year-old boy and 60-year-old man, villagers said. The bodies were taken to Pristina's main hospital, where morgue workers showed reporters 14 corpses in white plastic body bags. One had been shot in the chin, and the face of another appeared to have been bashed in.
The leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hashim Thaci, said his group was not responsible for the attack, and he strongly condemned it.
Truth: CNN is hurrying to put things in order after mentioning these gruseome details. It must be really imperative for them to support KLA (how else they would pay for the hot news they had been offered during the bombing?)
Jackson said that based on checks of weapons storage sites and the KLA's progress reports, he was "broadly satisfied" that most of their heavy weapons and some automatic weapons have been turned in, complying with a 30-day deadline that passed on Wednesday.
As the investigation into the deaths of the Serb farmers got under say, many ethnic Albanians continue to grieve their losses.
An ethnic Albanian woman wept when she learned that the body of her cousin had been found near Prizren. The body was discovered by forensic experts, as they searched for the remains of more than 100 missing villagers.
Comment: This is indeed a happy conclusion. The epilogue for a sad story. "An ethnic Albanian woman wept". What news indeed... Serbs are being justly killed; the KLA is a "peacekeeping" force; NATO is a "peacekeeping" force; Serbs spit at free journalism.
And an irrelevant "ethnic Albanian woman" is finally shown weeping.
This is what I call propaganda.
